As the promotion playoff battle drags on, Ikorodu City picked a point from fellow contenders Gateway FC in Abeokuta in a goalless draw on MD18 of the Nigeria National League 23/24 season.

LINE UP: Godwin Victor (GK), Waliu Ojetoye (c), Harrison Uzondu, Chibuike Prestige, Oladoja Elijah, Gidado Toyeeb, Salau Yusuf, Adelani Shola, Oyedokun Tosin, Abikoye Uthman & Onyema Emmanuel.

The opening minutes were quite uneventful mostly due to both teams trying to get familiar with a very bumpy surface, limiting the lads from having control of the ball.

After fifteen minutes, Ikorodu City began to dominate the game and Uthman had the ball at the back of the net, only to be denied by the assistant referee’s flag. Onyema soon got through on goal from an Uthman’s pass but his effort wasn’t powerful enough to beat the goalkeeper as the first half ended.

More of the same was the message to the lads in the second half with the home fans increasingly losing patience. Gateway United began to pile the pressure looking to break a resolute back line of Ikorodu City.

In the midst of many defending, Shola tested the goalkeeper directly from free kick, forcing him into a huge save before the home side also demanded saves from Godwin Victor in the away goal and he responded duly to ensure the game ended with go goals at full time.
